, founded in 1974, is an international organization which currently has about 525 members from around the world. The purpose of the Society is to stimulate scholarship on all aspects of Hume's thought and writings. It is open to everyone interested in Hume and his philosophical contemporaries.

The Society holds conferences each year, with a program of papers and formal comments, and the Society's annual business meeting. Papers submitted for presentation at the Hume Conferences are rigorously blind-refereed. 

The Society also organizes group sessions at the Canadian Philosophical Association meetings and the Eastern, Central and Pacific Division meetings of the American Philosophical Association. Special meetings are also held, either independently or sponsored jointly with other societies.

Members of the Hume Society receive the journal Hume Studies published twice yearly in April and November under the auspices of the Society. In addition, members have full access to the Hume Studies Archives, an online archive of the journal.

The Hume Society was founded in October of 1974.  James King, the society's first executive secretary-treasurer, prepared a Brief History of the Hume Society's Founding, which was originally published in the Bulletin of the Hume Society  (Fall 1993, Vol. XXII, No. 2).
