As of January 1st, 2003, the Hume Society has a new address:

The Hume Society
Páll S. Árdal Institute for Hume Studies
University of Akureyri

IS-600 Akureyri
Iceland

This is the address for the Society's newly established permanent office. The Society also has a new Secretary-Treasurer, Corliss Swain, appointed by the Society's Executive Committee; her (renewable) term runs through the end of 2007.

E-mail to the Society should be addressed to <secretary@humesociety.org>. The Society's web site address continues to be <http://www.humesociety.org>.

The founding of the Páll S. Árdal Institute for Hume Studies at the University of Akureyri in the north of Iceland has facilitated the establishment of a permanent office for the Hume Society. There will be a part-time staff member in Akureyri who will assist Corliss and her staff, and, if this arrangement proves satisfactory, will assist future Secretary-Treasurers.

Páll S. Árdal, a long-standing member of the Hume Society whom many of you know, is a native of Akureyri. Some years ago, he donated his personal library, which contained many books and materials related to the philosophy of David Hume, to that university. The university now plans to supplement these materials so as to build up an up-to-date library for Hume research. Scholars who want to work on Hume, with all the right books, in peace and quiet, will eventually be able to visit Akureyri for that purpose. At the same time, the University of Akureyri agreed to give the Hume Society a "home", in the form of a business address and secretarial help, at the Institute.
