Information For Authors

Submitting a Paper:

Hume Studies welcomes important, original, scholarly submissions bearing on the work, life, influences, intellectual milieu or reception of David Hume. Articles may be submitted in English, Spanish, French, or German, and may address any of the subjects Hume took up, including history, philosophy, psychology, economics, politics, and religion.
There are no submission or author fees.  There are no word limits, but processing times will be longer for unusually long or difficult papers. Submissions by authors who are ten or fewer years from the Ph.D. can also be considered for the Hume Studies Essay Prize (see Homepage).
All submissions should be prepared for anonymous review with self-references in the third person and accompanied by an abstract of no more than 600 words; a list of 6 to 12 keywords (including “Hume, David”); and a list of digital object identifiers (DOIs) for all secondary sources cited that have one. Authors who do not already have an ORCID-iD are requested to obtain one prior to publication. Submission files should be in Word (*.docx/*.doc), rich text format (*.rtf), plain text (*.txt), or open document text (*.odt).
To submit, authors need to register with the journal. Registered authors can log in and begin the submission process. Please review the About the Journal page for the journal's section policies, as well as the Author Guidelines.
Hume Studies uses double anonymous peer review. Authors should receive decisions within eight weeks, except for unusually long or difficult papers. Beyond 8 weeks, we keep authors apprised of the paper's progress.

Hume Studies also welcomes offers to review books. Book review correspondence should be sent to the Book Review Editor:
